In a nutshell, iTunes DJ is a music shuffle feature that was introduced in iTunes 8.1 (it was known as Party Shuffle in previous versions). The feature alone is nothing special however coupled with a few iPhone/iPod Touch owning friends and a party environment, it comes into its own. iTunes DJ allows your guests that are on your Wi-Fi network to request and vote for songs direct from their device using Apple’s free Remote application. Curious? Here is how to set it up.
First, make sure that iTunes DJ is set up to allow guest to request songs by selecting iTunes DJ in the left pane and clicking on the Settings button.
Once iTunes DJ is set up as above, you and your guests are good to go. Simply open the Remote app on your iPhone/iPod Touch and tap Choose Library. The iTunes library will automatically show up under the iTunes DJ list.
Selecting the iTunes library will then enable everyone to request songs
by browsing the entire iTunes library
or searching by song, artist or album name.
When a song is selected, its vote count is incremented and is moved up the list. The more a song is voted for, the higher up the list it goes.
Your guests can even choose to make the song play next or cut the into the current song. As you can see below, iTunes DJ will even suggest similar songs from your library to your guests!
Oh man, that’s the ultimate in geek partay
And I LOVE it! I needs an iPhone.
